Ancient archaeological finds prove that Deuil-la-Barre was originally settled back in Gallic-Roman times. The former Celtic name "Diogolo" describes a plain spotted with natural springs and lakes. The close proximity to the French capital has made Deuil-la-Barre an interesting business location. Excellent traffic and transport connections prove to be extremely advantageous.

The castle "Château de la Chevrette", erected during the Renaissance period, is widely renowned for its inviting gardens, designed by "Le Nôtre". Famous guests of times gone by included Madame d'Epinay, the brothers Grimm, Diderot and Rousseau. Today, the gate keeper´s cottage is home to a music school and the Museum of City History. The Romanic church Notre Dame, which was enlarged by way of a Gothic-style choir loft, is also well worth a visit.
