Games Capital

The Frankfurt region is the Hot Spot for the German games industry. It has the highest density of games developers, publishers and producers in Germany. 3D artists, graphic artists and programmers create the latest generation of digital game worlds.

The internationality of the city and its outstanding transport infrastructure provide an ideal platform for developing ideas and reaching markets. As the games industry also comprises the areas of PC, entertainment, film and communications, service providers from the media sector also benefit from the lively games sector in the city. These range from composers and sound studios to communication and marketing experts to consultants and media lawyers.

TOP developer
Internationally-renowned developers and producers are based in Frankfurt: Crytek, the company that developed CryENGINE3™, "Far Cry" and "Crysis", is one of the top 5 studios in the world; then there is Keen games, Deck 13 with its award-winning adventure game "Ankh" and Related Designs, the company that developed the successful "Anno" series.

International publishers such as Namco Bandai, Konami, Nintendo of Europe and Sony Computer Entertainment are also present here as well as Gamesload, the games download shop run by Deutschen Telekom AG and the German market leader in the online sector.
The hardware industry is represented by major industry players such as DELL and SAMSUNG, organizer of the World Cyber Games. MSI Technology, one of the leading manufacturers of Motherboards, is also located in Frankfurt.

Platforms and representation of interests
Since 2004, a Chapter Meeting of the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) has been held every year in Frankfurt. At these independent events, about 100 developers share their knowledge of the latest trends and technologies.

The GAMEplaces initiative organises regular events on this subject. In this context there is also a producers network, which allows games producers to share their experiences. Since 2007, the annual international developers’ congress “GAMEplaces International” has been bringing major industry players to Frankfurt for the purpose of intercontinental networking. In “Powerpitches” developers could pitch their prototypes directly to publishers and financiers.

The Central Association of the Electrical Engineering and Electronics Industry (Zentralverband Elektrotechnik- und Elektronikindustrie ZVEI e.V.) represents the interest of the German electrical industry at a national and international level.
