Film city Frankfurt: film set and production

With its international flair and attractive surroundings, the city makes an ideal setting for every film genre. Frankfurt is known in the film world for its outstanding infrastructure, extraordinary locations, creative minds, artists, new and established companies and state-of-the-art technologies.

Key Book Fair
The largest marketplace for rights and licences and a great “source of materials” for film producers from all countries is the Frankfurt Book Fair, the biggest media event in the world. The associated Forum Film & TV is a meeting point for (script)writers, agents and directors. The Hesse Film and Cinema Award is also presented during the Frankfurt Book Fair.

Film-makers
Frankfurt is the European centre for digital image processing and visual effects. Here, local post-production companies process all types of films, from advertising via animation to blockbusters. The Frankfurt based film company metricminds is Europe’s largest studio for motion capturing. The digital film festival, eDIT-The Filmmaker's Festival, draws creative people from all over the world to the city. There are a large number of sound studios available for professional music compositions and audio productions. All of these service providers are also ideal partners for co-productions. Many local film production companies operate on the international market and international companies such as Twentieth Century Fox or United International Pictures serve the German and European market from their locations in Frankfurt.

Broadcasters
The Hessische Rundfunk (hr), the German Association of Public Broadcasters (ARD - Arbeitsgemeinschaft der öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunkanstalten), the Turkish TV channel Canal 7, the pay-TV channel Kinowelt TV and the digital music channel iMusic TV are all based in Frankfurt.

Institutes and Institutions
The German Film Museum (Deutsche Filmmuseum) has one of the largest film archives. The German Film Institute (Deutsche Filminstitut - DIF e.V.) provides comprehensive information on all films produced in Germany at www.filmportal.de.

The largest German professional association of television-independent producers, the Documentary Work Collective (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Dokumentarfilm - AG DOK) and the Federal Association of Young People and Film (Bundesverband Jugend und Film e.V.) have their headquarters in Frankfurt. Local film industry media are: epd Medien, epd Film, CUT, Filmecho and Filmwoche.

For moviegoer, Frankfurt offers a wide range of cinemas and numerous film festivals, e.g. the International Children’s film Festival Lucas (A-Festival) or Nippon Connection, one of the world’s largest festivals of Japanese cinema.

In the state of Hesse, 20 million euros has been made available to the Hessen Film Fund (Hessische Filmförderung - HFF) and the Film Financing Fund Hessen (Film-Finanzierungsfonds Hessen-Invest-Film) to finance film projects for the period of 2006-2009 while 60 million euros has been made annually available to the Federal Film Promotion Fund.
The service centre of the city of Frankfurt ensures that filming permits are issued quickly with minimum bureaucracy.
