Central, national and public banks:
The European Central Bank and the Deutsche Bundesbank (German FED) have their headquarters in Frankfurt as well as the Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen, the KfW Bankgroup and the DEKA Bankgroup. The Asian Development Bank and a number of national banks of other countries have branches in Frankfurt.
International banks:
The biggest banks in the world are represented in Frankfurt, including Bank of America, Citibank, JP Morgan Chase, Banco Santander and American Express. The headquarters of Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank, Helaba and DZ-Bank are located in Frankfurt. Germany’s ten biggest financial institutions have branches here.
Insurance companies:
Large domestic institutions in Frankfurt are R+V, Alte Leipziger and Allianz. The direct insurer DFV Deutsche Familienversicherung AG has its headquarters in Frankfurt. The US institutions represented in the city are American International Group (AIG), Standard Life Assurance Company, and Swiss institutions include Helvetia, DBV-Winterthur, Zürich Gruppe and Basler Securitas. One of the biggest Dutch insurance groups, Delta Lloyd Groep, has its headquarters in the Frankfurt region.
Investment fund companies:
DWS-Gruppe, DEKA-Gruppe, Union-Gruppe, Allianz Global Investors, Cominvest and other well-established companies operate in Frankfurt.
Hedge funds:
In this area, too, Frankfurt occupies a leading position: 13 out of the 17 domestic umbrella hedge funds (Deka Investment GmbH, DWS Investment GmbH, UBS Global Investment Management) are represented in the financial centre of Frankfurt.
