Immigration and integration courses

On 1 January 2005, the Immigration Law came into effect.
Instead of five different residence titles, there are now only two: the (temporary) residence permit (Aufenthaltserlaubnis) and the (permanent) settlement permit (Niederlassungserlaubnis). The new right of residence no longer focuses on residence titles, but rather on residence purposes (training, employment, family unification, humanitarian reasons).

Who can you turn to if you have questions?

The Office for Multicultural Affairs (AmkA), Amt für multikulturelle Angelegenheiten (AmkA), advises you on questions concerning residence, naturalisation and asylum.
AmkA can also mediate in the case of problems with municipal authorities, e.g. with application for a residence permit or for its renewal.
